One of the best ways to learn electronics is to build your own gadgets. Adafruit has put together a guide that shows you how to build your own 3D printed Daft Punk Helmet with Bluetooth controlled LEDs. You will be able to use your smartphone to change the color of the LEDs and trigger animations.

You are going to need NeoPixel Rings, an Adafruit Feather 32u4 Bluefruit, a 5V Adafruit Trinket, a NeoPixel Strip, and batteries to get started. You can find more instructions here.
